my home town_ javi V

I was born in Barcelona but I live in Cunit, because now it’s impossible to buy a flat in Barcelona for its high rate.
Cunit is a small village in the south of Barcelona. It’s very good communicated by road and train. It’s 50 km to Barcelona.

Cunit is the first village of Tarragona Province.
In Cunit, it is very common to live in houses but I live in a flat with a wonderful sea sight. I prefer to live in a flat because it’s easier to clean and tidy up
It has a small Church, but it is very nice. All year it’s illuminated when arrive the night comes.
During the summer, the people who live in Cunit are multiplicated because it’s close to the beach.
I prefer to live in the winter, because it is very calm and the weather isn’t very cold.

In Cunit it’s possible to practice trekking, because it has very beautiful tracks and easy to arrive to marsh Foix. Those tracks are made for families and friends.
In Cunit, it is possible to make other sports such as running, cycle and sports summer in the beach, because the council prepares the beach with the equipments for thEse sports.
This year Cunit will inaugurate the first pavilion.
Other sports facilities are the swimming –pool (but it ‘isn’t covered, what a pity¡), a pitch, tennis court and the small fitness downtown

Cunit belongs to the XATO route,
This route is gastronomic and it includes important villages such as Sitges, Vilanova, Cubelles, and Calafell…..

The Xato is a special salad and its most important ingredients are lettuce, olives, anchovy, tuna, cod and the typical sauce, which is different in every village.

In Cunit IT is possible to go to buy every day in the week, because the shops are open all days. At the weekend people sell much more things, because many people who have a second house in Cunit come out.

Cunit is a village compromised with recycling, it has a very good rubbish dump where IT is possible TO recycle all rubbish, and it’s very good for the planet

Cunit council organizes every year the typical parties, like Carnival, Xatonada, Christmas parties, April party. We are very good at having fun

This is my village. For the moment I’m very happy to live here and I hope that you like my small description.

4. Hobbies

I don’t have a lot of time for pursuing my hobbies. With school and the other activities I do, I’m often kept busy simply by going to rehearsals, performances, newspaper deadlines, and the like. In this sense, those are my “hobbies.” When I’m not involved in any of those activities, I’m probably reading, playing piano, on the computer, or hanging out with friends.

2. My job…

…well actually, I don’t have one yet. So I’ll get back to you on that…

In the meantime, newspaper takes up a lot of my time. Though my newspaper class has an “advisor,” the class is pretty independent, with students making decisions and working together rather than the teacher lecturing. As editor, I plan what we do each day in class and lead discussions. The job is a lot harder than I thought it would be, but it is a great experience because I get to work with very cool, intelligent people. There are always things to do: reporting, writing, editing, layouting, planning, etc. As a result, newspaper takes a lot of time, especially on deadline nights, when we stay at school until 10:30 p.m. (By about 8:00 on these nights, everyone has gone a little crazy, but that’s part of the fun of it all. What’s not part of the fun is coming to school the next day…). Because we manage ourselves, we have more freedom and more fun.

I hope to do more journalism in college, but I don’t know if I want to pursue journalism as a career. For now, though, it’s the closest thing I have to a job.

My family

I have already written a bit about my family. My sister goes to college in Boston, and she is 21 years old and speaks Spanish. She traveled to Chile last year for a semester and studied how Chilean schools teach about Pinochet. She is graduating this coming June. When I visit my future college for a week in April, I will also visit her, which I am looking forward to. I only see her once every few months, so I am very happy to have this chance to meet her.

My parents are named Joan and Michael. Both of them are lawyers. In fact, much of my family are lawyers; my uncle is one, my grandfather was one before he retired, and I think my sister will be one some day. No, we do not discuss lawsuits at the dinner table. Or at least, not usually… ;)

My mom is from Los Angeles, and my dad is from Illinois. I see my mom’s family much more often than I see my dad’s family. Partly this is because Illinois is much farther away, but also my father’s side of the family is a little weird. Most of my mom’s family is located in California, near where I live. I have two cousins that live nearby, one of whom is my age. I also have some cousins in Nebraska, where my uncle teaches agronomy (if you don’t know that word, don’t feel bad - about 99% of Americans don’t either).

Hey, Javier!

Hey, Javier! I have already written an introduction in the other blog, so I’ll try not to discuss the same subjects. If you have any questions on vocabulary or don’t understand something I write, just ask.

I live with my parents but not my sister. She is going to Wellesley College, and all-girls university outside Boston. She is in her final year in school, and next year she will go to New York City to live with her friends and find a job. I also have some cousins, and I am especially close with Danny, who is my age and lives nearby. My grandparents live in Los Angeles, and we see them often.

What bands other than U2 do you like? Do you have anything like “American Idol” in Spain? It’s funny how well Kelly Clarkson has done over here… her “Since U Been Gone” was practically the theme song for our first semester in the newspaper office at my school. I prefer good music, though.

Do you like movies? Recently, I haven’t seen many good ones. I don’t think 2005 was a very good year for new American movies. Have you seen any movies lately? One thing I recall from my visit to Spain was that there were immense movie posters everywhere. Advertisements for Harry Potter 3 took up entire blocks in Madrid. I enjoyed that Harry Potter movie more than I expected to. It was directed by Alfonso Cuaron, who also did “Y Tu Mama Tambien,” which I’ve heard is a great movie. Bye!
