Emily’s Hometown

Hello, Montse! As I have mentioned I live in the county of San Mateo in the Bay Area. However, I was not born in this county. I initially was born in Hayward, which is on the opposite side of the bay from San Mateo, and then moved to San Mateo when I was about 6 or 7 years of age. While I do not remember much about the city of Hayward, I remember my house quite clearly. I had a big back yard with a large garden my mother used to tend to as her hobbie, a dog, a sand box, as well as a play house that was my size! I remember my neigbors were really nice, and so were the children living next to my house, as well as across. The park was generally close to my house, so it was easy to get to and from my house. After we moved to San Mateo, it seemed as if everything was the same as it was in Hayward; the parks, the children on the block, and the large back yard! San Mateo has been my home now for 12 years, and it seems as if I know this county like the back of my hand! My goal is to get to know the Bay Area better, and so far I have been making great progress! Of course my ultimate goal is to move to the city of San Francisco, which I am sure you are familiar with. However, I will always enjoy San Mateo due to the perfect size; just big enough so one will not get bored, yet small enough to get to know a lot of people. I also like our location becasue we live close to the ocean, being about 15-20 minutes away! We are also in a convenient location because we have so many colleges that we can go to, so we as students don’t feel the pressure to go far away to get an advanced education. I take pride in our trasnportation system, airports AND metro systems, as well as our metropolitan aura which helps prevent us from becoming bored - there is so much to do! I look forward to leaning more about the exciting aspect of your home town in Spain!

My Hobbies

Hello again! I’ve read that some of your hobbies consist of going on walks, dancing, cooking, as well as being with your family. In my opinion those are exceptional past times! While my hobbies are not as constructive as yours, I still enjoy my many past times. As I might have mentioned before, I enjoy sewing, swing dancing, listening to music, playing music (with my clarient), running in my high school’s sports teams, and hanging out with my friends. Being that we are seniors in high school (meaning it is our last year of the four), most of us are turning 18, so there have been a lot of birthday parties. Of course everyone wants to celebrate this milestone year! The age of 18 in the U.S. signifies that one is classified as an adult, therefore they can vote, buy products that are not allowed to be purchased by teens and children, enlist in the army, and can even gamble in select areas. But when there is not a birthday being celebrated, I do enjoy my leisurly activities I have mentioned above. Currently, all seniors and juniors (third year students) are getting ready for prom, one of the largest dances that occurs towards the end of our high school careers. Many girls are already looking for their dresses, and many guys are renting limousine and thinking about who to ask to be their date. Prom is just around the corner, so I’m sure in no time students will be buying corsages and boutonnieres! Overall, most of my time is preoccupied with celebrating the end of my high school experience and having fun with my friends before we go off to college.

My Job

I usually take on summer jobs due to the interference with my many school activities. For instance, this past summer I worked at the local mall (it was convenient too because I live so close!) My jobs that pertain to my school work are my participation on the Mock Trial team (which is a team that simulates trial cases and competes with other schools), Model United Nations Team (which is that same idea as the Mock Trial team, only we are simulating United Nations Conferences at local universities such as Stanford or U.C. Berkeley), cross-country durning the fall, and track during the spring, as well as my participation in band (I have been playing the clarinet for some time now). So in short, my school is really my job.

My Family (from Emily)

It is so great that you have a wonderful and loving family! Since you are a teacher, I suppose you can consider your students as part of your family, as well! I only have one brother named Joshua, who has just turned 13 last weekend. He wanted a small birthday with just my parents and me, so my mom made him a cake and I was in charge of making other dessert items, such as Jello and cupcakes. I live with my mother, Carolyn, and my father, Hugo. My mom lived all over the East coast of the U.S. and my father was originally from Lima, Peru. I also have one Cat named Fritz, who I consider a part of my family. Do you have any pets? I can still remember getting her 8 years ago in January! She was so small then! I hope to talk to you soon!

Introduction

Hi, my name is Emily Franco and I am a twelveth grade student at Aragon High School. On your previous post, you mentioned that you enjoy dancing! I too enjoy dancing, especially ballroom dancing and swing dancing. I started about two years ago out of curiosity and have continued ever since, dancing at swing dance functions accross the Bay Area (this is the area surrounding the San Francisco Bay, California) You also mentioned that you have a husband. How long have you two been married? My parents have been married since 1986, and I am very proud of their success! Not many marriages in this country last very long, so coming accross a couple who have been married for more than eight years is hard to come by. I’m looking forward to hearing from you soon!
